Ben Franklin: In Search Of A Better World

The Hon. Ben FranklinWe all know the anecdotes about Ben Franklin. He discovered electricity’s relation to lightning, invented bifocals, helped get the Post & Patent Offices started, one of the Founding Fathers, etc. But what most of us don’t know is that Ben set the tone for entrepreneurship in general and for entrepreneurship in the U.S. when he created the first networking group - which he called the Junto - in 1727 when he was just 21 years old.

Like most networking organizations today, the Junto’s purpose was to debate questions of local, regional, national and international concern – and also to exchange info about what was happening in the larger business community. This helped set the table for everything he did afterwards. This year’s Angel Capital Summit honors this and his many other contributions to entrepreneurship and angel investing.

Note also that to help you set your own entrepreneurial table, we will be closing up this year’s Angel Capital Summit with a Town Hall Meeting. You’ll want to put this on your calendar, as this will be an open discussion moderated by Ben Franklin himself!! As Mr. Franklin is a noted angel investor, entrepreneur, social scientist, political theorist, soldier, scientist, civic activist, politician, husband, father and friend, this should be one of the more interesting Town Hall Meetings in the U.S. this year!

His goal for this meeting is simple: To start an entrepreneurial revolution!
